thanksgiving day #1

my birthday gift for myself this year is to start blogging again after my hiatus since my college days. Why a blog you ask? Because I'm envious of those who blogs i.e. my wife's. Also, a legacy... for my kids so that if I pass one day and they wonder how their dad was like they could find it here. And for myself, so that I can recount God's endless blessings in my life and to note down the happenings of my daily life....

speaking of which i'm almost 2 months past due for my own birthday gift, but thanks to this post-ALS, 5 days of thanksgiving facebook tag post-ish thing, I've been tagged and inspired+motivated to finally get started.

here we go... day #1

we're cruisin' together
#1 I give thanks to be able to get away with SE duties this year. Instead of being gone at camp for 3 days and 2 nights, I get to spend time with the wife and the kids. This is probably the last time we will get to spend good chunks of quality time as a family of 4. Janelle & Asher seemed to cherish each other's company more now that Janelle started going to school.

#2 I give thanks for the mini Joseph (Jesus' earthly dad) experience. I realized that I have the honor to build all 3 of my kids' cribs (not from scratch like Joseph and without a doubt way clumsier). I could imagine Joseph's joy of making that manger and watching baby Jesus' fall asleep in it.

#3 I give thanks that God has given me a wonderful wife, who is godly and has a clear vision from God to be a SAHM (stay at home mom) for the time being (so that she has a way out when she doesn't want to be SAHM when her mission has accomplished). God has showed us time and time again that this is His vision for our family for now as He continued to take care of all the other things especially financially since we became parents.
has it been 4 years 2 months and 24 days already!!!

So Asher went "viral"...

 Woke up Saturday with the boys bringing their lego creations to the living room to create their typical weekend havoc. One of the Asher's new creations caught my eye. It was a tank (specifically a T-34), he was inspired by this WW2 book that he checked out from the library.  I was amazed by his ingenuity and his ability to different lego building techniques that he learned from other Lego sets to construct this. I picked it up and took a video of it.   I mean I was really impressed and wanted to share it with the world like a proud dad. So in addition to the typical ig story post, I posted it to the /r Lego subreddit. Low and behold, it blew up. It went "viral". My Heart is Full

 Last night was one of the rare nights where I woke up in the middle of the night and had trouble falling back to sleep. The reason was lame... I was looking forward to read more comments from my former students on my teacher appreciation related post from earlier today 😖😖😖 I guess what kept me up was the multiple conflicting emotions that is coming at my 3am brain from all directions. There was pride (the bad ego kind) - as the comments start to come and I found myself being a modern teenager being overly concerned about how many more comments I would get. There was concern - as I ponder over how I should respond to each comment from my former student so that they know they are all valued. Last but not least, it was a very full heart, the feeling of accomplishment, the feeling of joy and satisfaction to hear back from the kiddos from my past almost 13 years of teaching that they have been doing well. Yet another anti-climatic ending to the school year

Another year,  yet another anti-climatic ending to the school year. With COVID hitting Taiwan for reals this time, we went online for the last 3 weeks of school which is similar to last year (when we went online for the last 2 weeks of school).  Here's a last day of work outdoor morning devo pic and an extremely rare group photo of our HS staff  Some highlights for the fam this school year...
